The idea to develop cooperation between Northern zoos came as a result of several visits by Northern Forum delegates to several environmental meetings in regions where new zoos have been created in recent years, like Yakutsk in Russia and Harbin in China. Zoos in Northern regions have to cope with numerous problems linked to weather, temperatures, health and feeding the animals, not to mention the fact that, since wildlife is very abundant in these regions, locals tend to bring to the zoo baby animals they have found.
