From July 29 to August 15, the Arctic Summer School is held in Yakutsk.

The School organized by the North-Eastern Federal University and supported by the Northern Forum Secretariat. The students of the school are undergraduate and graduate students from South Korea (their delegation is organized by the Korean Maritime Institute), Argentina, Germany, and Japan.

Acting Executive Director of the Northern Forum Daryana Maximova is a co-author of the School’s agenda which includes lectures on the issues and opportunities for the development of the Arctic region.

For example, the School’s agenda includes lectures on Yakutia, transport infrastructure of the Far North and the Arctic, the Northern Sea Route, Arctic tourism, indigenous people’s issues, the region’s investment attractiveness, climate change, etc.

Also, there are planned trips outside Yakutsk - to the Lensky Historical and Architectural Museum “Drujba” (Friendship), Chkalov island and the Lena Pillars National Park, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Today, students of the Arctic Summer School-2019 visited the Secretariat of the Northern Forum. Daryana Maximova and a specialist of the Northern Forum Varvara Parilova told students about the history and activities of the organization.

The students were attracted and have had considerable interest.

Many questions were asked about the prospects for the development of international relations in the North and the Arctic as part of the project activities of the Northern Forum.

Northern Youth Forum

The Northern Youth Forum (NYF) is a youth wing of the Northern Forum, consisting of representatives of young people from the age of 16 to 40 years.

Mission of the NYF is to strengthen the spirit of trust and cooperation between young representatives of Northern regions and countries at the stage of personal and professional views’ formation.

Goal of the NYF is to promote the interests and views of young people in solving the problems facing the Northern Forum by using the potential of international youth cooperation.
