As part of his working visit to Khanty-Mansiysk, Executive Director Vladimir Vasilev attended a meeting at Ugra State University.
Roman Kuchin, Rector of Ugra State University, and Elena Lapshina, Head of the Department, introduced the activities of the UNESCO Department on Environmental Dynamics and Global Climate Change, which also has the status of a Research and Education Centre.
The meeting was organised for Alexander Alimov, Director of the Department for Multilateral Humanitarian Cooperation and Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, and Vladimir Vasilev, Executive Director of the Northern Forum.
A productive dialogue ensued on the subjects of climate change and UNESCO cooperation. The Commission for UNESCO has expressed its readiness to support the development of the Chairs, and the University's active involvement in the Northern Forum's climate change initiatives has been acknowledged. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia has also expressed its appreciation for the University's participation in the Arctic Pavilion at the COP29.
