Vladimir Vasiliev, Executive Director of The Northern Forum, took part in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which took place from June 5 to 8 in St. Petersburg.
The main theme of SPIEF 2024 was “The Formation of New Centres of Growth as the Cornerstone of a Multipolar World”.
On the second day, Vladimir Vasilyev took part in the “Arctic Day”, where the heads and representatives of eight Arctic regions of Russia - the Republic of Karelia, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the Chukotka Autonomous District, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, the Nenets Autonomous District, the Arkhangelsk and Murmansk Regions, as well as the Krasnoyarsk Territory - presented their development plans. The purpose of the discussion was to draw attention to projects in one of the most strategically important territories for Russia.
Vladimir Vasilyev also took part in two SPIEF sessions: “International Interregional Cooperation: Economy of Opportunities” and “Dubai-Baku: From Energy to Finance”.
“Both sessions are of significant interest, as we are trying to advance at the global level and it is important to understand in which direction to move and what priorities and trends in the development of cooperation at the regional level, in general, are outlined,” shared Vladimir Vasilyev.
The session “Dubai-Baku: from Energy to Finance” was dedicated to preparations for the 29th UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP29), which will be held from November 11-22 in Baku. The Northern Forum, as an observer of the Framework Convention on Climate Change (FCCC), plans to participate again in COP29.
SPIEF has been held since 1997, and since 2006, it has been held under the auspices of the President of the Russian Federation, who has also attended each event. Over the last 24 years, the Forum has become a leading global platform for members of the business community to meet and discuss the key economic issues facing Russia, emerging markets, and the world as a whole.
