School of life in the north

The Municipal Educational Institution “Yakutsk City National Gymnasium named after Antonina G. and Nikolay K. Chiryayevs” in Yakutsk calls students from the northern regions to participate in the international interregional distant Olympiad “School of Living in the North (in English).

The Olympiad “School of Living in the North” for school students is held by the National Gymnasium as a part of events of the international organization “Northern Forum”, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), the Department of English Philology of the Institute of Modern Languages and Regional Studies of the North-Eastern Federal University (NEFU).

Objective: to involve school students in the study of human activity and life improvement designing in the northern regions.

Tasks:

Development of research skills of school students.

Development of foreign language communicative competence of school students.

Identifying and supporting talented and creative children and youth.

Participants: school students of the northern regions - 8-18 years old.

Terms: February 15, 2020 - March 14, 2020.

February 15 the Organizing Committee will send to registered participants Olympiad tasks by e-mail.

The Olympiad will be held in the form of work on a meta-subject task.

Results will be summarized in the following age groups:

Elementary School: ages 8-10 years

Middle School: ages 11-14 years

High School: ages 15-18 years

Results will be announced on the following websites: www.ygng.yaguo.ru and www.northernforum.org on April 20.

Participation is free (there is no registration fee).

The working language of the Olympiad is English.

All participants of the Olympiad will receive a certificate of participation.

Each age group will have one winner and five prize-winners. In each age group the winners will be awarded with laureate diplomas, and the prize-winners with the diplomas of the prize-winners.

Requirements: We kindly ask you to use Microsoft Office Word.

Font: “Times New Roman”, 14 pt, 1.5 spacing. Pages should be numbered (a title page shoud be counted, but with no numbers on it). Links to sources, a list of references must be included. Attachments should be submitted to the text of the work: photocopies of documents, tables, photographs, etc.

Evaluation protocols and reviews will not be available.

“SCHOOL OF LIVING IN THE NORTH”

We call teachers to take part in the Olympiad “School of Living in the North” under the auspices of the international organization Northern Forum's Project “Schools' Partnership”. The project has been running since 2007. The organizer of the Olympiad is the Yakutsk City National Gymnasium, Sakha Republic. The experience of life in the North which is accumulated by the peoples of the northern regions is an enduring value. The project “School of Living in the North” is aimed at creating conditions for interaction and cooperation on the involvement of pupils in research activities on the development and improvement of life in the Northern regions.
