“Russia has approximately 2.4 million people residing in the Arctic, and just like everyone they have their constitutional rights, and their standard of living should be no worse than the average one for Russia. It’s a certain challenge, because capabilities of certain municipalities are behind those indicators”.

Alexander Kozlov,

Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic

Today, 18 November, the first meeting of the renewed composition of the State Council of the Russian Federation on Tourism took place in Moscow.

On 22 July 2024, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed Decree No. 613 on the commissions of the State Council of the Russian Federation. Oleg Kozhemyako, Governor of Primorsky Krai, was reappointed as the Chairman of the Tourism Commission.

The Northern Forum has always paid great attention to the development of tourism; in different periods, projects were implemented to support scientific, educational, business, and ecological tourism; round tables on tourism development with the participation of leading experts from different countries were held within the framework of the Northern Sustainable Development Forum. In early 2023, a Northern Forum working group on Arctic tourism was established.

The Northern Forum's membership in the Russian State Council Commission on Tourism will allow the Northern Forum's member regions and partners to make a significant contribution to the implementation of the national tourism project and the Strategy for Tourism Development in Russia until 2035.

Vladimir Vasiliev, Executive Director of the Northern Forum, being a member of the Commission, had to take part in the first meeting of the renewed membership in online format, as the Northern Forum is the organiser and responsible for the Arctic Pavilion at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
