In May 2021, the Chairmanship of the Arctic Council is transferred to the Russian Federation. In anticipation of this, it is worth remembering that the Northern Forum was the predecessor and one of the active supporters of the creation of the Arctic Council in 1996. Since 1998, the Northern Forum has been an observer in the Arctic Council.
The program of the chairmanship of the Arctic Council covers a significant number of events that will be held in different regions of the country, including in the regions - members of the Northern Forum. The Northern Forum, which is an active participant in many areas of the Arctic Council's activities as an observer organization, is ready to render all possible assistance to the implementation of the Russian Federation Presidency Program.
The Northern Forum gratefully accepts the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Ministry for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic of the Russian Federation and is ready to become the organizer of international forums under the auspices of the Arctic Council - the Arctic Forum on Sustainability and the Arctic Energy Summit, as well as the Youth Startup Forum, the First Conference chambers of commerce and industry of the Arctic regions and the creation of an international brand "Made in the Arctic" in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation.
The newly created Youth Northern Forum has actively joined the work of the Project Office of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh) "Russia - Arctic" and is ready to undertake the obligations to organize a number of events under the chairmanship of the Russian Federation. Regions - members of the Northern Forum from the Russian Federation express their readiness to host meetings of senior officials, working groups of the Arctic Council, the Arctic Economic Council, and permanent participants of the Arctic Council on their territory.
At the XIV General Assembly, a separate resolution "On supporting the Russian Federation`s Chairmanship in the Arctic Council" was adopted, and two projects approved by the Working Group on Sustainable Development of the Arctic Council: "Children of the Arctic" and "Digitalization of cultural and linguistic heritage of the indigenous peoples of the Arctic ”. Both projects were initiated by Yakutia.
We are confident that if we unite the efforts of our regions, all our common potential, then we will demonstrate to the international Arctic community that the Northern Forum can handle any tasks.
