September 24 - 28, representatives of the northern regions took part in the Northern Forum of Sustainable Development of the Arctic, held in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Yakutsk. Today, the issue of sustainable development of the northern regions is topical. It is required a detailed study of the Arctic regions' issues to be able to fully assess the significance of the vast territory affecting the global level.
Goal – brings together the most prominent experts of the circumpolar and Asian countries for future project activities. Yakutia can become a bridge joining the Arctic and Asia. The participants of the Forum will represent various fields of expertise: academia, officialdom, community service, and business.
In the framework of the Northern Sustainable Development Forum experts and participants from the northern countries and northern regions of Russia discussed important issues related to social problems in the Arctic regions, features of economic and business development, environmental issues, tourism and protected natural areas, as well as cooperation between countries and regions of the Arctic community with Asia.
Within the framework of the Northern Sustainable Development Forum, agreements between the North-East Federal University and the Project Office for the Development of the Arctic (PORA), the Korean Maritime Institute, and the University of Lapland were signed. An agreement between the Arctic State Institute of Culture and Arts and the Chukotka Autonomous Region was signed. Agreements between the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and Canada, China were signed.
