2019 Youth Ecological Forum will take place in Akureyri, Iceland on October 7-10. It is organized by the Northern Forum Secretariat with the support of the Akureyri Municipality.
This year's theme of the forum is “Protection of the Arctic Water Resources”. Including participants and their chaperones, the YEF will approximately gather 40 representatives from the Northern Forum member-regions, such as the Sakha Republic(Russia), Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Yugra (Russia), Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (Russia), Akureyri (Iceland) and Hokkaido (Japan).
During the YEF, participants will present their reports and projects, and listen to lectures by Arctic Council’s experts.
Since 2001, the YEF has been organized on a regular basis by the Northern Forum in places provided by the organization's member regions. It is a great place for teenagers and young people to share their environmental experiences and make friends from different countries and just have a good time. Although topics are updated for each new forum, key topics usually are the prevention of climate change, improving the environmental literacy of citizens, urban ecology, etc.
